Subject: RE: El Callis - how was it?

Hi Charlie,

We too should have e-mailed earlier. Firstly we had a great time in Spain and the location of El Callis and its environ stunning, a lot to do and some great recommended eateries.

I think however you should make clear on your web site that El Callis is shared with the owners and rather than having the whole house to rent it is only the top floor. From the photo we were looking forward to sitting on the first floor open balcony only to discover that this was not ours to use! The weather was very hot and the top floor under the eaves was very stuffy and hot. As a result we spent much of our time in search of outdoor shade and water.

I would also say that El Callis is rather sparsely furnished with no area for everyone to congregate if the house was full - some decent sofas in the main room would not go a miss. I know that Xa also found the kitchen a frustration with the cooker, fridge and dishwasher all rather ancient. Some decent sized glasses and perhaps basic condiments would have also been appreciated. Our hosts were however charming and could not have been more helpful.

I'll copy this to Xa should she wish to add anything.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Simon

Charlie,

We had a marvellous time at El Callis. It was just what we were looking for. Large enough for the whole family of nine of us including tiny grand-daughter and in the most lovely country, stunning views and with good walks on our doorstep and a superb restaurant. Joan and his mother were charming and luckily our french sufficed excellently for communication.

Perhaps a little more comfort in the "Great Hall" would have been welcome but we made do but the other rooms served our purpose excellently.

Your gastronomic recommendations were superb and never let us down. Beget was a jewel and the only restaurant open there that day - El Forn - was excellent and in the most marvellous position although it was not one of yours.

The biggest snag, which you know about, was that there were little or no basic supplies on our arrival and this was a little hard over the May Day weekend as there was practically nowhere open and hence our first visit to Hostal Sant Salvador. We have fitted the house out with bath cleaner, garbage bags, soap, tea, kitchen towel, aluminum foil, saran wrap and the rest. not a problem but a little disappointing.

Thank you for all your excellent service. It was a marvellous holiday and one certainly not to be forgotten.
With best regards,
Simon

Charles,

I apologize for being so late on commenting on our outstanding stay at El Callis. There were absolutely no surprises, which is a real compliment to you and your web site. The experience exceeded the expectations of all six of us.

We fell in love with the house, the view of the mountains from the baloney, and the area. There is a lot of variety: we hiked in the mountains, went to a neat French village for lunch one day and also had a great day at the ocean. The space was super for the six of us and could handle additional 2 to 4 comfortably. As you indicated our hosts were delightful.

I had a little difficulty finding an Internet cafe, but there is a good one to the right of the Intra Marche supermarket in Orlot. They are closed Tuesdays and Sunday mornings.

We cooked in a lot which was easy and fun, but did have a good meal at the restaurant up the hill that you recommended. The information on local hikes that was available at the house was excellent. We especially liked the Roman Via right above El Callis.

Rest assured we will recommend your web site and service to friends visiting the Barcelona area.

Best regards,
Denny Mool

We will be in barcelona for the year, so if any last minute deals come up that we shouldn't pass up, please let us know. if this is any taste of what else is in store, we would welcome another trip. saludos,

To: 'Charles Williams Subject: Arnotts Keys left at El Callis? or Barbats?

Dear Charles,

We have just returned from a very enjoyable 2 weeks in Catalonia

The people, mountains and food were fantastic-as you already know.

I can understand why you have stayed.

Each house was well presented and admirably met our needs-both sets of owners were welcoming and kind.

Thank you for your efforts.

One last glitch is that on returning to the UK I realized that I had left our house keys and my car keys in Spain. I believe at El Callis in one of two bedrooms. The double bedroom on the right looking out past the beautiful balcony or the adjacent bedroom with a double bed and single bed. There is a fairly large bunch on one keyring probably in one of the chest of draws or cabinets in one of these rooms. I would be most grateful if you could check with the owners at El Callis and perhaps the owners at Barbats-my Catalan is non existent. We did try once to speak with the owners at El Callis but may have confused them.

If they are there then we can organise how to get them back to the UK asap-we would pay any costs of course.

Hope you are well-we tried the restaurant at El Callis and were very impressed. We've never eaten such good food in a restaurant and to have such a close contact with the chef was a delight.

Best wishes
Steve Arnott

Dear Charlie

A short note to say thank you (and please pass on a huge thank you to the Forts) for such a lovely villa. We shall highly recommend it to all our friends. Your written guide was also very informative - we used it often during the week - the only thing not found was the mysterious river!

We ate twice at the Hostal de Sant Salvador restaurant too - an excellent restaurant at the top of the drive! It was a great mid-way break between Barcelona and the mountains, and Catalonia is truly beautiful; we feel like we've visited several regions, not just one.

Best wishes
Steve Day

Dear Charles,

Just a quick note to say thank you for arranging our recent stay in El Callis.

We had an absolutely wonderful time . The owners are lovelyand made us feel very welcome and the house was beyond our dreams . The view from the huge room through the arched windows is wonderful, and we spent the nights watching the moon come up over the mountains.

We will definitely return to Spain and will look no further than to use you.

Is it possible to give us an indication of how soon we should book for 2002, in order to ensure that we get somewhere decent. Since we both teach, it would have to be during August?

Thanks once again for all your help
