Costa Brava Villas : Cal Moro : Comments Feedback on Cal Moro----- Original Message ----- From: Alderson, Lynda To: Charlie@villasbarcelona.com Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 3:19 PM Subject: RE: Cal Moro August 20th - how was it? Just to let you know we had a fantastic stay at Cal Moro for the week of August 20th. House was superb, had everything we needed, and the gardens in particular were far beyond our expectations. Great time had by all Many thanks Lynda Alderson ----- Original Message ----- From: Cowling, Matthew To: Charles Williams Sent: Wednesday, November 02, 2005 10:38 AM Subject: Cal Moro in late October HI Charles, Just wanted to say a quick thanks for recommending Cal Moro to us, it was absolutely spectacular and we all had a really nice weekend. Of the 11 of us that went in the end at least 3 want to rent it again with their families for Christmas or a family get together next summer and all want to do this weekend a lot more regularly and in the same place - I'll be in touch for the next one! Thanks again and until the next time, Matt ----- Original Message ----- From: Frank Karl To: charlie@villasbarcelona.com Sent: Thursday, September 29, 2005 1:41 AM Subject: Stay in Cal Moro Dear Charlie - a few comments to add to those which David Bunker sent. We were very impressed with the Villa, it was so nicely presented, was well equipped and accommodated us all very comfortably. Neus was delightful - it’s amazing how much can be conveyed by sign language & good intention - a sort of international version of "Give us a Clue". The few problems we encountered were in no way detrimental to our enjoyment and we would love the opportunity to revisit at some future date. We would highly recommend Cal Moro. We trust the local supermarket was not terrorized by the onslaught of a bunch of Kiwis unable to speak Spanish let alone Catalan, trying to locate items on the shopping list. The lady behind the counter at the train station was most helpful. The restaurant that Neus booked for us at the western end of town was great (the name escapes us at the moment, but it began with M). I think we provided the entertainment for other guests especially when we attempted to drink Sangria from the traditional flask! The evening ended with photos with the chef and staff who were great, even if privately they believed us to be certifiable. There is so much to see in the region without having to drive long distances and in fact it does not take too long to walk into Sils, unless like us, one stops to pick blackberries! All in all,a wonderful stay. Best wishes Margaret & Frank Karl. ----- Original Message ----- From: David Bunker To: villasbarcelona Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2005 1:27 PM Subject: Re: Villa Cal Moro (27th August - 2 September2005) Dear Charlie, Thank you for your email. I feel I can answer your questions for the group, others may wish to add their comments. It was fabulous week and everyone enjoyed themselves. Arthur left Neus a note (in English) at the house with a list of a few repairs which needed doing around the house e.g. mesh blind repairs and pool pump. The outside spotlights locked on for a couple of nights, Neus checked a circuit and reset it which then upset the pool pump function. So I hope this was fixed following our departure. I must admit the livestock over the paddock in the barn gave the occasional ‘wiff ‘ of ‘country’ when the wind was from that direction was noted by me as well as the increased population of flies obviously from the same source. Swatting flies became a pastime of several of the guests. The fact the dog was penned without much exercise on the property for much of the week prior to her been taken away by a caregiver gave us all some concern as well. We all loved the property. I would not hesitate recommending Cal Moro to my other friends and family. The place was as decribed, only better :-) So much that we're thinking of returning next year. Therefore: Is Cal Moro free for a week somewhere between June 16 and July 15 next year? Would you happen to know the telephone number to the house? My wife's mobile sounds a bit scratchy. Thanks! Dear Charlie, As you will remember, my family from Norway visit the beautiful Cal Moro last week in June this summer. It was a marvelous week for us and we wish to repeat it again next summer (23 th - 30 th June). Can you please confirm that this week is available for us ? Best regards Aage ----- Original Message ----- From: PAMELA HALL To: charlie@villasbarcelona.com Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 5:43 PM Subject: Cal Moro Hello Charlie Good to hear from you. It seems ages since we were at Cal Moro having spent some time in France afterwards with friends. Cal Moro was lovely. The whole family thoroughly enjoyed themselves, particularly the pool and large gardens which were superb and beautifully maintained. The house itself was spacious and maintained to a high standard by Neus and her ladies. I agree with earlier comments that Neus et al couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Unfortunately, none of our party has any Spanish and so communication was a slight problem. We did our best with gesticulations and use of a dictionary. It might have useful to know that the garbage is collected daily and is to be left outside the garage. Also, is the rubbish to be separated into various recyclables; we never really established that. I thought that the caretakers apartment was a little disappointing - needs a bit of refurbishing to bring it up the a similar standard to the rest of the house. However the separate apartment was excellent for my very young grandchild as it had no stairs for us to worry about. We had a major problem with flies, but I suppose that it is to be expected given the proximity of the local farms. We found your guide to the area excellent and extremely useful. Many thanks for that. I think it saved us from visiting what would have been very disappointing places and introduced us to many delightful ones. Girona is a charming town with excellent restaurants and some awful cheap ones which are best avoided. All the best and thanks for introducing us to the area and having such a good time there. Kind regards Pamela Hall Charlie adds: As for the flies, yes, they are always a problem and even more so a hot and exceptionally dry summer like last... however, there is a very easy solution and I wish I had know as I could have instructed Neus to take care of this for you.... namely, at just about any store you can buy coils of some non-toxic chemical product, usually green coils for outdoor use only, about 2 Euros for a dozen coils, which burn slowly like incense, and last for about 10 hours. A couple of these around the house and garden would have kept most of the flies away. If it wasn´t for this product, we could have used the outdoors where my wife and I rented last summer as there were so many bugs and wasps! but the coils keep our garden bug free. ----- Original Message ----- From: ash.richardson To: Charles Williams Sent: Friday, October 17, 2003 5:33 PM Subject: Re: Cal Moro, October rental we loved the place. plenty of firewood. we cooked on the indoor bbq every meal. toys for the kids were great. the table tennis table proved a hit. we had plenty of space, even as 10 adults and 6 babies at one point. playground for the 2 yr old. grass area for the crawlers. comfortable beds and hot showers. open fields to kick the footy. lovely pool, though we didn't swim in it. needs a wee bit of attention in the kitchen (no veggie peeler, new cork screw, etc.), but that's being real picky. location is excellent, but even with your directions everyone got lost from Girona airport, so perhaps worth re-writing these in bullet point format (keeping in mind folks with English as a second language). i'd rather not admit it, but we also got lost driving up from Barcelona after the exit toll on exit 9 (you get one bite at the cherry for the exit to Sils and its ideal if you happen to be in the slow lane). |
