Dear Charlie, We had a wonderful time at Can Cunill. What an incredible setting! Thank you for making the arrangements for dinner at the restaurant our first night. That was a great experience. The owners set up a very long table upstairs and fed us well.

The swimming pools at Can Cunill were one of the best features for us all since the weather was quite hot. We did manage a couple days at the beach which we wished was closer. We had Neus cook for us one night and she was alot of fun. We also had Horst come over a couple nights and watch World Cup games with us (of course we rooted for Switzerland then)

The house itself was quite magical and we all enjoyed our bedrooms and the views from them.

Girona was a charming town and I personally enjoyed the Jewish quarter and the historical museum there. The only drawback for us was the distance travelling to points of interest....the teenagers in our group would have preferred a larger town close by but for me, I really enjoyed relaxing out in the country on the beautiful grounds of Can Cunill. We also appreciated all of your info from emails and materials at the home. It did help in getting organized.

Hi Charlie, I just wanted to say thanks for a great holiday at Can Cunill. We had four families and 17 people in the house and it can be difficult to keep that many people happy, but everybody had a fantastic time. The house was such a peaceful place that we were often reluctant to do much more than walk up to the bar at L'Esparra for a couple of drinks.

The Con Cordon restaurant in Riudarenes and the yellow masia restaurant (I can't remember the name) at Sils were excellent. I would add that what really marked out alll 3 was how friendly the staff were.

Charlie adds: ... the yellow masia restaurant is called" L'Era de Sils" - the threshing floor of Sils - and it´s a place I go to often.

The cleaners did an excellent job and the various people that came in over the two weeks gardening or working on the pools were all quietly efficient, not disturbing us in any way.

By the way, I would definitely recommend making the effort to walk up to the church at Argimon, as the views from there were superb, and the church is so well kept. So thanks once again for a great holiday,

We definitely enjoyed our meals in Catalonia.

Here are our comments: The Saturday we arrived at Can Cunill, we went to El Moli de la Selva, apprx 5KM past Vidreres...an old mill with a fine menu at reasonable prices, good fish, meat dishes, fidoes, fairly priced selection of wines. We all enjoyed and definitely recommend El Moli.

Looking for something creative, our group went for dinner at L'Alancia in Angles, basically the next town on the N63 beyond Santa Coloma. The Menu de Degustation was enjoyed by all. It featured fine Catalan regional dishes prepared with a modern edge. Highly recommended. About 40-45 euros all in, including wine, water, bread, taxes etc.

To celebrate an important birthday and anniversary, we reserved for lunch at Les Cols, in Olot, approx 50 minutes from Can Cunill. Set in an old masia, it was recently redone featuring an ultramodern interior and is the recipient of several architectural awards. Great inventive food, using local ingredients, with top service and fairly priced considering the quality. (Degustation menu 50 euros). The level of inventiveness was just right...no crazy chemical reinventions. An outstanding feature: the garden where you will enjoy a copa of cava before the meal and where you will have coffee and refreshments after the meal. The consensus of our group: Les Cols was one of the most memorable dining experiences. Not to be missed!

Neus prepared dinner one evening and it was a delightful treat, featuring a well prepared seafood paella. I believe she has learned how the charge!

We also cooked two dinners, using the barbeque pit. Enjoyable, since the local ingredients are fresh and most reasonably priced.

Food shopping: Riudarenes has it all! and all on the same street: Great bakery, a fish/seafood shop (delicious shrimp from there for dinner), a small supermercado but surprisingly well stocked with wonderful local cheeses, meats, Ibericos etc. We shopped these locations for some of our lunches which we consumed at Can Cunill. In Sils, the supemarcado is well stocked and has a fine meat and cheese counter.

For wines, the wine shop up the hill from Neus' bar, has a fine selection.

Barcelona: We enjoyed the fine Tapas at Ceverceria Catalana and my wife and I enjoyed a delicious dinner splurge at Gaig.

After Can Cunill, my wife and I crossed Spain by car to San Sebastian, stopping at Zaragosa (as you suggested), Ezcaray in La Rioja and Pamplona. Needless to say, there was no lack of fine food!

Just a quick note to thank you for bringing Can Cunill to my attention via your website and all your help in setting up what was a truly memorable long weekend to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday.

Can Cunill was fantasic and completely surpassed any hopes or expectations that I had. The look on the faces of both my husband and his surprise guests as they drew up was priceless. Neus was lovely and while we couldn't converse in Spanish or English we got by very well in pigeon French which might be worth mentioning to future guests.

Your description on your website possibly with the exception of the DVD player ..which may be there but we never managed to find and the now non - existant wine cellar was pin point accurate and I would say to anyone even considering renting Can Cunill " Do it! - you will not be disappointed!"

We not only loved the house but really enjoyed the surrounding area. Girona is lovely..and so accessible, Tossa de Mar was one of the nicest beach resorts I've seen for a long while ..though probably nicer in October than the height of the summer and it's an easy train ride to Barcelona.

We can't wait for an excuse to come back!

Charlie adds: ... I have taken note to call Neus and ask her about the DVD player. DVD players now cost as little as 65 Euros so there is no excuse for that item missing in the house, even if the family who stayed there before you broke it. As for the wine celler, I will have to eliminate all mention of that in the website. The wine celler was one of Neus´s bright ideas for adding value to the house and making a bit of income at the same time. She would stock the wine celler and guests would be free to help themselves and then settle up with Neus at the end of their stay. It was the honour system, you know, with a list of the wines where one would check off the number of bottles taken. Well, I needn´t go into details on how much Neus lost with this scheme. She should have know that people drink to forget!

Fortunately, there are decent wine shops all over, including the one right up the street from Neus´s bar, where you can buy good vintage bottled wine, or cheaper local plonk right from the barrel! ...

Well Charles,

Everything went extraordinarily well. Apparently vegetarianism is considered akin to homosexuality in Catalonia, but it seem that the Catalans are relaxed to "life-Style" choices, and the fussy eaters were catered with no problems.

Talking to Neus was a life experience, a meeting of an almost elemental personality, to not understand her, would be difficult, as she keeps on going until you do. She was very helpful, and it was a shame that we were unable to converse more easily, so that we could thank her for her kindness. She refused to allow us to order taxis' when we drop by her Cafe, late one evening, instead she drove us to Can Cunil. Which was good of her, and also provided yet another "life experiences" fitting 11 grown adults into a Frontera.

Can Cunil its self was a joy, like having your own private hotel. The grounds are marvellous (just how old are those Aloes?), well laid out and pretty. There was though a facinating edge to the plant life, I would not have cared to walk drunkenly into some of the succulents that abound, on a dark and warm night.

The rooms were simple and pleasant, though there was some problems with the ground floor bathroom flooding. No-one complained or had any problems with the rooms, apart from two of the single blokes, who had to share a room and who's mutual snoring meant they effectively slept in shifts.

The pool area was excellent and allowed us to swin, drink beer, play cards and even kick a ball around. The main lounges were spacious and airy, and were well used by all.

We had planned on a number of days out, but everyone was enjoying them selves so much that mostly we just hung at Can Cunil and enjoyed ourselves. Fortunately we were pretty organised and made two major shopping trips, and filled the car to the brim with wine, beer and plenty of Catalonian food stuffs. We tended to have a big barbeque every night, and with the great quality of the local meat, this was a joy.

It was for me the best, birthday party ever. It seemed to go down well with the rest of the crew as well. We had a few minor tiffs, and one or two "interesting" moments. For example one couple missed the station and ended up in Gerona. It took two hours and one very annoyed taxi driver to get them to Can Cunil. But then they didn't follow the advice given in their vunderbar information pack.

In summary I have this to say. Can Cunil is the almost perfect place for a group of freinds to gather for a holiday. It is not family biased like so many other large Villas, and is just right for adults. The proximity of Gerona (top place) and Barcelona, mean that those who want to do the bar, disco or cultural thing have an easy opportunity, via the local train. For those with the maturity and sophistication to enjoy the company of their freinds, it is an idyllic place to relax (kick back) and enjoy the sunshine. It is very well set up for self catering and has all the important facilities well laid out.

There are one or two niggles. We didn't know where to put the rubbish, and the way lights are turned on and off are a mystery. There were also a lot of missing or dead light bulbs. However that said, it isn't very much to complain about really is it.

Last year we rented in the month July a villa called Can Cunill in a town Sils.  We were very happy and pleased with this villa and with the cooking and the kindness of Miss Neus.
Now we want to rent for 2 weeks in the period of 9 july till 15 august 2000 a villa which you can compair with the villa Can Cunill for +/- 20 persons with also the possibility that someone comes cooking in the evening. 
Please give us some information!
