Costa Brava Villas : Can Cunill : Comments Feedback on Can Cunill----- Original Message ----- From: Nygren To: 'villasbarcelona' Sent: Saturday, May 03, 2008 5:18 PM Subject: Can Cunill Having just arrived back home after a wonderful week in Spain and Can Cunill. This is a marvellous place, better than we could ever dream of. We all want to come back in near future. We had all our meals in the house, which was perfect because of the good space and well equipped kitchen. And you can imagine poor Neus who had to pick up our huge garbage every day. I hope she didn’t faint when she saw all our bottles, cans and leftovers. Thank you for making this real and send our best regards to Neus and the owners of this magnificent house/palace. Best wishes Eva Nygren and company ----- Original Message ----- From: Molly Buissink To: charlie@villasbarcelona.com Sent: Tuesday, June 12, 2007 6:42 PM Subject: Can Cunill, 26 April to May 3, thank you Dear Charlie, We had a wonderful time in our house; Can Cunill.”I had told the children that it was going to be a small house but very pleasant. You should have seen there faces and hear there reactions. It was one big feast. The house was absolutely beautiful. Clean , tasteful and with all the luxury one can only which for. We have had a great time. The weather could have been better but because we had so much space and with the table-tennis, television etc. Also we brought enough books and went to Girona and Barcelona. I gave Neus 68.- euro. Because she was so nice to invite us all for a drink by arrival. And I honestly thought we were able to have a meal in her restaurant. That was a mistake or rather misunderstanding. Anyhow she is a nice person and deserved a little extra. I have passed your address on to my nephew, who is working in Madrid with tourism, special events. He is sometimes asked for housing. Who knows!!. So thank you again for everything and I hope we’ll be able to come back sometimes. Fondest regards, Molly Buissink-van Belle Amsterdam
Dear Charlie, We had a wonderful time at Can Cunill. What an incredible setting! Thank you for making the arrangements for dinner at the restaurant our first night. That was a great experience. The owners set up a very long table upstairs and fed us well. The swimming pools at Can Cunill were one of the best features for us all since the weather was quite hot. We did manage a couple days at the beach which we wished was closer. We had Neus cook for us one night and she was alot of fun. We also had Horst come over a couple nights and watch World Cup games with us (of course we rooted for Switzerland then) The house itself was quite magical and we all enjoyed our bedrooms and the views from them. Girona was a charming town and I personally enjoyed the Jewish quarter and the historical museum there. The only drawback for us was the distance travelling to points of interest....the teenagers in our group would have preferred a larger town close by but for me, I really enjoyed relaxing out in the country on the beautiful grounds of Can Cunill. We also appreciated all of your info from emails and materials at the home. It did help in getting organized. Thank you very much.
Hi Charlie, I just wanted to say thanks for a great holiday at Can Cunill. We had four families and 17 people in the house and it can be difficult to keep that many people happy, but everybody had a fantastic time. The house was such a peaceful place that we were often reluctant to do much more than walk up to the bar at L'Esparra for a couple of drinks. The Con Cordon restaurant in Riudarenes and the yellow masia restaurant (I can't remember the name) at Sils were excellent. I would add that what really marked out alll 3 was how friendly the staff were. Charlie adds: ... the yellow masia restaurant is called" L'Era de Sils" - the threshing floor of Sils - and it´s a place I go to often. The cleaners did an excellent job and the various people that came in over the two weeks gardening or working on the pools were all quietly efficient, not disturbing us in any way. By the way, I would definitely recommend making the effort to walk up to the church at Argimon, as the views from there were superb, and the church is so well kept. So thanks once again for a great holiday, Cheers,
We definitely enjoyed our meals in Catalonia. Here are our comments: The Saturday we arrived at Can Cunill, we went to El Moli de la Selva, apprx 5KM past Vidreres...an old mill with a fine menu at reasonable prices, good fish, meat dishes, fidoes, fairly priced selection of wines. We all enjoyed and definitely recommend El Moli. Looking for something creative, our group went for dinner at L'Alancia in Angles, basically the next town on the N63 beyond Santa Coloma. The Menu de Degustation was enjoyed by all. It featured fine Catalan regional dishes prepared with a modern edge. Highly recommended. About 40-45 euros all in, including wine, water, bread, taxes etc. To celebrate an important birthday and anniversary, we reserved for lunch at Les Cols, in Olot, approx 50 minutes from Can Cunill. Set in an old masia, it was recently redone featuring an ultramodern interior and is the recipient of several architectural awards. Great inventive food, using local ingredients, with top service and fairly priced considering the quality. (Degustation menu 50 euros). The level of inventiveness was just right...no crazy chemical reinventions. An outstanding feature: the garden where you will enjoy a copa of cava before the meal and where you will have coffee and refreshments after the meal. The consensus of our group: Les Cols was one of the most memorable dining experiences. Not to be missed! Neus prepared dinner one evening and it was a delightful treat, featuring a well prepared seafood paella. I believe she has learned how the charge! We also cooked two dinners, using the barbeque pit. Enjoyable, since the local ingredients are fresh and most reasonably priced. Food shopping: Riudarenes has it all! and all on the same street: Great bakery, a fish/seafood shop (delicious shrimp from there for dinner), a small supermercado but surprisingly well stocked with wonderful local cheeses, meats, Ibericos etc. We shopped these locations for some of our lunches which we consumed at Can Cunill. In Sils, the supemarcado is well stocked and has a fine meat and cheese counter. For wines, the wine shop up the hill from Neus' bar, has a fine selection. Barcelona: We enjoyed the fine Tapas at Ceverceria Catalana and my wife and I enjoyed a delicious dinner splurge at Gaig. After Can Cunill, my wife and I crossed Spain by car to San Sebastian, stopping at Zaragosa (as you suggested), Ezcaray in La Rioja and Pamplona. Needless to say, there was no lack of fine food! That's it for now. If you would like me to email you a note of recommendation for your website, let me know. Can Cunill was truly a wonderful experience for our entire group. All the best,

Hello Charlie, I have been trying to send you an email since I came back from Spain to let you know how it went but work was crazy! So here it is: First of all THANK YOU sooooo much for the incredible time we had at Can Cunill thanks to you. You made a dream of 21 persons + kids become true. The house is exactly as we were expecting it and on top of this we realized how well designed it is so people could enjoy late nite out or chatting and dancing in the living room while early birds were sleeping in very quiet bedrooms. The garden is so welcoming so are the 2 swimming pools. The Barbecue area is perfect for long "aperitif" and lunches. What we were not expecting is the view from the house...stunning! Green hills and mountains.. A beautiful castle or monastery is the only construction you see... no neighbors. Well just the fact of speaking about it and I am there again... we all hope it will happen again. I want to thank you also for making it so easy to rent the house and for your great indications. Neus was adorable and the owner is a nice person too. We will be in touch! The weather was excellent that time , important for a succesfull holiday. The house was in good shape. As last year, Neus and her team did everything we asked to make our stay confortable. Neus organised for us 2 fiesta's with a gitarist and excellent spanish food. Those evenings we made to much noise for our neighbours. We apologise for it. We were all very enthousiastic about our stay in a very exceptional and wonderfull environment and house. Fabulous! Next year we will not be there because we have two students starting university studies. But I hope to come back one year. I don't know when. Please, bring my greating to Neus and thanks to her for her kindness and work. We all had a fantastic holiday and Neus was brilliant. The anniversary meal was superb, have attached a couple of photos to this email. Thank you for all your help with everything. Kind regards Nicky ----- Original Message ----- From: Kate Stanton-Davies To: 'villasbarcelona' Sent: Wednesday, September 21, 2005 1:54 PM Subject: RE: Can Cunill, June 18 to 25 Dear Charlie, We all had a lovely week at Can Cunill in June. The house was as great as we remembered it to be, and the weather was scorching. We had a fluent Spanish speaker with us this time, so we were able to chat much more easily with Neus. Just a minor issue on this visit:- We were unable to track down the wine cellar in the property – not a big deal really, but it would have been very handy to have as a backup. The guy who lives in the house next door (don’t know if he’s the caretaker?) told one of the party that there is no wine cellar – perhaps this could be changed on the website if this is the case. Apart from that, everything went smoothly, and everyone really appreciated the tranquility and beauty of Can Cunill. Best regards Kate Kate Stanton-Davies Castillian Ltd Charlie adds on May 14: The Swedish family currently staying at Can Cunill (May 7 to 14, 2005) just paid the highest of compliments to this house. Before leaving they handed over the deposit to secure the same week in 2006! Same thing with Kaat Peters from Amsterdam, but she is coming back for three weeks again in July next year! ----- Original Message ----- From: Kaat Peeters To: Charles Williams Sent: Tuesday, August 17, 2004 8:20 AM Subject: Re: Kaat Peters rented Can Cunill for July 3 to 24, 2004 Good Morning Charles, I confirm our booking for next summer from 9 till 30 July, 2005. It was incredible! Friends from all around the world had a dreamy surreal week in an exceptionally beautiful setting and gorgeous home. Everyone wanted to meet there for our first-year anniversary, and we're trying to think of other occaisions that we should rent the house for. Thus far, our plans are on hold...not for lack of desire, however. I'm thinking maybe we could go again for our fifth anniversary... We really had a breathtaking time there and Neus and the other women working with her made sure everything ran smoothly. They really went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that we were comfortable with all of the plans and arrangements! Anyway, I'm sorry it has taken so long to finally write and let you know how much we enjoyed our time there. It really couldn't have been better. On another note, my father (Richard Stranger) has rented Can Portell through you for most of August. He just sent me a copy of your driving instructions from Barcelona. I was hoping you could tell me the best way to get there by train from Barcelona (i.e. which is the closest train station? And is it possible to get a taxi there to go to the house?). Done and thank you so very much! (Charlie adds here)... Thanks a lot. Cheers, Barbara Stranger ----- Original Message ----- From: Ralph Ebbott To: Charles Williams Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2002 5:26 PM Subject: Can Cunill Just a note to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Can Cunill. It is a wonderfully secluded hideaway with only the daily movement of the goats as a reminder of the real world outside. I cannot imagine a more comfortable place to bring a family and the grounds are quite beautiful. We arranged for dinner in for five of the seven nights and ate leftovers on the other two nights. Local restaurants were sampled at lunchtime. Trying to think of some helpful suggestion for improvement, I can come up with only one thing: the seat on the toilet in the shared upstairs bathroom needs attention. Don't you wish all "complaints" were that minor? Thank you for your part in the arrangements for a very pleasant family holiday. It was all we hoped for--and more! We are having some of the participasnts in our Spanish adventure home for Tanksgiving, and will use that time to put together a composite commentary. IT WILL BE POSITIVE! We were very impressed with Can Canill, and have praised it and your services to several friends. One thing I did do while there, was a video tour of the house and garden area. I have it on CD, and would be pleased to forward it to you for your use should you want to look at it and adapt it to your use. Let me know. Hiring Can Cunill for our wedding helped to make it the most magical and romantic day of our lives. The house and grounds are immaculate, the views stunning and Neus and her team were truly fabulous(offering to pick up one of our drunken revellers from Can Cunill and take him to the train Station in Sils - needless to say after another glass of Cava he called Neus and cancelled) and incredibly generous,if only we'd known in advance how good cooks they were, we would have had them over every night! What else can I say than I can't wait to go back, infact our whole wedding party is now talking about various events they could use as an excuse to hire the masia. Thank you, Neus and Hors for all your help in making our wedding one to truly remember. Pamela Murdoch Roberts
---- Original Message ----- From: hugh sinclair To: Charles K. Williams Sent: Thursday, May 24, 2001 8:23 PM Subject: Re: Villa Rental Can Cunill Back from Can Cunill. We have had a marvellous time. Great villa, fabulous views and Miss Neus and her team put on 2 great meals. We have put a glowing report in the book. One point of feedback. The bathroom position with more than 2 families does present a bit of a problem. We had one family occupying 2 bedrooms and the main bathroom and four couples (3 over sixty)sharing the shower and the loo, all on the first floor. We tried to get them to use the other facilities, but maybe it is the reserved British nature, but they would not. I only pass on the comment as helpful feedback. From the British perspective, the villa is fantastic for 2 large families. Another bathroom or second shower and loo on the first floor for the third family would be nice. To put this comment into perspective as I feel bad having made it, we hope to come again to Can Cunill. We loved it. We ran out of time for things we would like to do. Many thanks for the arrangements at your end. Hugh Sinclair ----- Original Message ----- From: Martin Fairley (U.K.) To: Charles Williams Sent: Friday, September 29, 2000 10:42 AM Subject: Re: Can Cunill Hello Charles, The house was furnished to a very high standard and was spacious with a huge number of featues - not least the summer house. I think most of our time was spent cooking in the summerhouse and dining by the pool. Your description of the house was accurate. The house was visually stunning - I think the pictures did not really do the house justice - more could me made of the size of the house and the pool. Also the fact that the house was secluded and had little noise intrusion was a big feature. The cost of renting the house was very competitive and overall everybody in the party considered it money very well spent. The stay in Catelonia was fantastic - Barcelona is a wonderful city and the use of the tourist guide book was helpful for our trips and where to go. The coastal trip from LLoret past Tossa and along up to St. Feliu was amazing on a motorbike. Neus was a big help given that none of our party could actually converse in Spanish. She was always bubbly and welcomed us on our arrival with drinks which was most welcome after a long journey to Sils. Given that we were on motorbikes and we enjoy a drink, Neus, Hors and the Gardener helped us hire taxis on a few occasions. We found everyboody's hospitality superb. The only thing I would recommend is that you advise people not to take travellers cheques for the balance of payment. I would recommend a bank transfer similar to the deposit. We had to make 4 jouneys into banks to clear the travellers cheques. Firstly, the bank in Sils was not big enough to change the amount we had, then the bank in the place up the road would not exchange the cheques but insisted on opening an account from which we could not withdraw on the same day. The next day we went up the bank was closed because we had not got sed to trading hours in Spain. The next day he would not let us take out the full amount in one go we could only take half but we said we were catching a plane the next day (which was a lie), so he let us have all of the money. Not being able to speak Spanish this was a frustrating experience. The last point is only a recommendation and did not spoil what was a truly fantastic experience (echoed by the whole party of 16). The house is a show piece and I would recommend rental to any of my friends. Hope this account helps, if you want any more information, let me know. Regards ----- Original Message ----- From: Jerry Meyer To: 'Charles Williams' Sent: Tuesday, September 26, 2000 8:02 PM Subject: RE: Can Cunill Charlie; All 20+ people who stayed at Cunill had a wonderful time! The property is spectacular. Your description is accurate but you could highlight that the furnishings are great and the landscaping is breathtaking--the grounds are manicured to perfection ! The villa is well equipped with all supplies, etc. Additionally, it is well located for those who would use it as a base for touring Catalonia. It couldn't have been a more perfect place. Neus was extremely accomodating and helpful, as was her staff. Having a live-in caretaker, Ramon, on the property is something you could mention in your write-up as it was very convenient. When the few glitches we encountered arose it was handy having him there. There were very few negatives. I would suggest that the description of the number and type of bathrooms be more precise. With couples sharing, it could be toublesome. With our group, as we are all good friends, it was not a problem. I have traveled throughout Spain and Catalonia is truly a special and unique place. It would take several lifetimes to see it all! This was the only vacation I've had in which I had no desire to return home. This is the 3rd year that we have rented villas (Provence and Tuscany were the prior locations) and while each place has been terrific, Can Cunill was the best! Thank you for your help and detailed work. Let's stay in touch as I am sure that Nina and I will be returning to Catalonia.
