This elegant townhouse in Pelacals is located in a picturesque little hamlet just 1.5 kms up the road from Viladamat (see Can Marga townhouse). Viladamat is a lovely quiet town where my wife and I spent the last three summers, and we know and love the area well. This area is gorgeous and unspoilt, the beaches amoungst the best on the Costa Brava, and the quality of life in this tiny corner of the Mediterranean is second to none. As long as you are a small group or family, it would be very hard for you to find somewhere as agreeable as this Pelacals townhouse for anything close to this price, and only 4 kms to the beach! You could walk that, through the orchards, in about 40 minutes, but that is 2 minutes by car.

Although modernised internally to a high degree of decor and comfort, this solid stone house very much retains its essential rustic Catalan character in terms of architectural features - beams, arches, tiling etc..

Downstairs: Entering the house from the patio, you are in the spacious lobby area. At one end of this is a sitting room area, with a sofa and easy chairs, always a pleasant, cool area to relax in. A small toilet adjoins this area, as well as the kitchen, a good sized room, fully equipped with fridge / freezer, gas cooker, washing machine, microwave, toaster etc. There are plenty of cupboards and work surfaces. There is a table, seating four, for more casual meals.

At the other side of the sitting area is the more formal dining room, with antique table and chairs - seating six in comfort - and very Catalan in character. Off the lobby is what we call 'The Prison', a small room, many of hundreds of years old, which acts as a mixture of storage (principally for the bikes) and workshop.


UPSTAIRS: At the top of the stairs (with handrail) a short passage leads to the beamed 'master' bedroom, with twin beds and ample storage space, and with its own 'en suite' toilet and hand basin. There is also another bedroom next door, with two single beds. Plus stairs to a small loft with a sofa bed.

The main, modern, bathroom with bath / shower and toilet adjoins both these bedrooms. At the top of the stairs there is also what we call the third bedroom area, suitably screened off from view, and with a single bed and its own balcony and countryside view. These three bedrooms give a good measure of sleeping arrangement flexibility.

Also upstairs is the main sitting room, surprisingly large and comfortable, and tastefully decorated and furnished with sofas and easy chairs, side tables, rugs and a large coffee table, TV and large wood burning stove. Again with a small balcony and an excellent view over the surrounding countryside.

All floors are terracotta tiled, and walls are either white, or with exposed stonework. Pictures and elegant curtains abound.

I have seen this house twice now and I would gladly spend a summer here.
I would be very surprised if anyone didn´t fall in love with this house and the area. It is what the Mediterranean should be like.
