I´m waiting for some better photos of this attractive property. For now, at least, here is a good number of half-decent photos which give you some idea of Mas Anès. Be sure to read the very thoughful write-ups in the Comment´s Page for more info. They all agree that these photos don´t do justice to the place!

Location: Mas Anès is the last house on the outskirts of Riudellots de la Selva, a town due east of Girona airport - don´t worry, not on any flight path! - just off one of the main roads towards the coast at Sant Feliu de Guixols 20 kms away. To get to the house, you have to pass through Riudellots, not the most spectacular of Catalan villages, but with a good smattering of shops and restaurants and cafés. Looking out from Mas Anès, all you can see is the surrounding farmlands stretching towards the sea to the east and the Pyrennees to the west.

The house: Mas Anès is a large house on a large private property. I have to ask the owners how big, but I imagine, after having walked all over the property with the owner, it is about the size of 6 football pitches. There is a bit of everything outdoors here, the new pool (10x4.5m) of course, plenty of lawn space for the sun loungers, then an area of fruit trees, some pine forest, and just off the long private driveway up to the property, there is a good-sized natural pond surrounded by tall trees. To the back of the house is the pool and BBQ area, with three outdoor tables seating up to about 14, a portable BBQ (the owners plans to build a fixed stone BBQ soon), and the pool has 6 very nice Gross Fillex lounge chairs and a parasol. There is shade from the large tree you see in these photos (the huge oak taken in winter in photo 1 above and next to the well and pool in photo 3), and more landscaping with a new line of tress has gone around the pool since these photos were taken. There is lots and lots of room for kids to play.

There are three doors into Mas Anès. Oddly enough, the main entrance is now on the back side of the house as you drive up the driveway, a feature which I think is nice as the front of the house is where the pool and main garden area is. Once you have parked (room for about 4 or more cars) it is easiest to come in through the back door or around side of the house. This back door opens onto the large living room, and just to the left a large bedroom with two single beds and a sort-of half bath, with a sink, shower, and toilet incorporated into the room. Across the wide hall from this room is another room, with a large double bed (150 x 190cm), with a bathroom next door with shower. The front of the house is separated into three rooms, the other end of the long living room, the large and rather grande main entrance proper, with it´s huge wooden doors, and a curious subterranean granary which the owners have cleverly illuminated and covered in thick glass and turned into a historic reminder of this farmhouses long past..., and the kitchen, which, along with all the mod-cons (washer, dryer, dishwasher, double sink, microwave, etc) also has a age-old wooden fireplace and a long wooden dining room table seating up to 12. The kitchen has yet another door to the outside, where there is a covered outdoor terrace and breakfast table.

Upstairs, there are four rooms set around the central hallway - well, it is more than a hallway, isn´t it. It´s really a large central living room around which the rooms are distributed. At the top of the steps on your right is the main en suite bedroom, the really big one you see below with the lazy chairs, large TV set, and fancy bedstead. The bathroom here has a shower. The other three bedrooms are situated on the other three extremes of this central room, and there is also a full bath with bathtub in the hall. All rooms have double beds measuring 150x190cm, which is a good size in Spain, corresponding to American Queensize, and not your typical 135x180cm which is so common here. So you have 6 bedrooms, five with double beds and one with two single beds, and a cot for baby is available too.

I know I say this every time I add a new house (today is 26 Oct. 2004) but it is always true, and never more so than with Mas Anès. This house is a very welcome new addition to our listings. Fortunately, the three families who stayed here two weeks each last summer (2004) agreed. All three of those families flew in to Girona airport and were picked up by the owner, Quima, at the airport. Quima is Catalana but went to Oxford and so speaks very good English. Better than mine, so be sure!

shame I had to visit this house the first time on a stormy day, but the spring wildflowers were much in evidence...
