The rental part of this house is to the left in the photo above, the part sticking out behind the tall palm tree. The owners live in the huge mansion to the right. Despite living next to the owners, Cal Rajoler is quite private, as the rental house is orientated away from the owners house, and anyway, the owner´s kids have grown up and moved on...

Outside the front door there is a vine covered verandah with a table and chairs seating up to 12. This is a perfect place to enjoy meals prepared in the good-sized kitchen, just beyond the small vestibule inside, or at the free-standing brick barbecue, situated a few meters away down towards the pool. Cal Rajoler´s kitchen is modern, with all the amenities, including a dishwasher and a chimney for indoor barbecuing.

To the right of the kitchen is a door to the main living area, consisting of a dining room table, and, a step down, the living room, with TV (satellite connection) and stereo (radio/cassette/CD), and another separate sitting area at small round card table. There are large glass windows allowing plenty of sunlight and unobstructed views of the countryside. This house, in fact, has plenty of windows throughout - something you don't always find in older Medieval constructions. Beyond the kitchen towards the back of the house are the two ground-floor are two bedrooms, each with two single beds, and a full bath.

From the dining room, a stairway of thick wooden planks leads up to the second floor, which has three bedrooms - two with double beds and one with two single beds, and there is another elegant full bath in the hall, with separate shower, bath, and toilet compartments. The distribution of rooms in this house is quite good in that no rooms share a common wall. The decoration is tastefully done, with a slight Andalusian flavor, with whitewashed built-in shelving and plenty of old inlaid woodwork, or marquetry.

Just to the left of the main entrance, on the way downhill to the pool, and just under the main house´s kitchen, is the separate studio apartment, which has two single beds, a small bathroom with shower, and a small kitchenette with fridge and hotplate. This has been done since I last visited so I can't say what it looks like... but from the pictures, it looks quite tastefully done, with plenty of exposed stone and rustic furnishings.

Below the studio there is yet little utility room with a washing machine, and storage space for the poolside chairs, the badminton, the ping pong table, and other games. The pool, surrounded by wide lawns, is right next to the guest house.

In front of the house is a gravel driveway with plenty of parking space and a rather simple garden with a mix of old pines and palm trees under which there is a little sitting area around a large mill-stone and a barbecue nearby. The owners, Josep and family, who live next door, runs a large dairly farm, a cooperative with over a 1000 head of cattle, a safe distance down to road, and the house is on a hilltop of cultivated fields and granaries. The Fluvià river and the Medieval village of Orfes, with its locally famous and very pleasant restaurant, La Baretina, lies one kilometer away. One of the most salient features about this house is the huge amount of lawn space there is surrounding the house in all directions. Views across the valley are nice too, and you can see some very old farmhouses in the distance. Charming!
