sleeps 30 or so in 12 large bedrooms, 9 full bathrooms + 3 wcs, Can Tapies is on the same 15 hectaire property as Mas Dalt, and is another fully licensed 1100m2 baronial stone mansion consisting of three fully equipped and independent apartments. One apartment has 5 en suite bedrooms, another flat has 3 en suite bedrooms, and the third flat has 4 bedrooms sharing a bathroom.  It is very important to stress here that these are not 3 apartments crammed into a normal farmhouse. Each apartment is very generously proportioned, with fully equipped kitchen, living/dining room, large rooms, private terraces, each flat set well apart from one another. There is a 100m2 playroom with billiard, ping pong, and babyfoot. The new 12x5m swimming pool is set on a terrace just below the house, with a football pitch with goalposts.  The views throughout are great!  Great for larger groups but priced for smaller groups who might just want a little extra space!

up to 27 max. in 10 rooms, 12 bathrooms, this is no doubt the house with the greatest WOW-factor in my website.  Although not really on the Costa Brava (it is 40 kms due north of Barcelona, 2.5 kms from the pleasant village of Castellterçol, this new property deserves to be seen so I have decided to put it into both the Costa Brava listings and the Barcelona area listings, where it really belongs. This is a massive luxury (again, the L word is justified)  mansion on a private 10 hectaire hilltop property in the middle of a natural park reserve, with indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and great views of the Pyrenees. The location and the grounds are tops, but what really sets this house apart is the very high quality of its interiors. Located 20 kms south of Girona, one hour from Barcelona, a safe 20 kms inland from Lloret de Mar and the other (better) southern Costa Brava resorts. This is a huge "luxury" estate (sorry for using the often abused "L" word - I usually don´t - but in many ways this one deserves it!) originally dates from 1583, has 8,000m2 of private gardens (tended by a full-time gardener), two large swimming pools, and a magnificent poolside dining area and seating for over 50 guests (outdoor kitchen and bathrooms too). This is the kind of villa you might see on TV. Even if you can't afford to stay here - and if you can you probably should - you might like to take a quick look at this one just for the fun of it. I've seen lesser villas going for twice the price!  Free internet.

sleeps 17 or so in 9 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms,  (2 of these outdoors poolside and BBQ side).  Set on a large private 35 hectaire fenced property under pines, 30 kms north of Barcelona, 12 highway kms inland from the beaches around Mataro, this property consists of two houses, always rented together to the same group, never separately.  The larger 5 bedroom house (225m2) is brand new and quite elegant, fully air conditioned and with quality furnishings, while the other 4 bedroom house (100m2) is rather simple, and I have been offering this older house for years now, so the owners have a proven track record.  Each house has its own outdoor sitting area and there is a large covered BBQ dining area with seating for all guests, ping pong, etc.  The 10x6 meter swimming pool is larger than most.  Highly recommended, for small and larger groups alike, who wish to be in a nice quiet location with great views, but not far from Barcelona and the sea.  Free WiFi & local cell phones for longer rentals.

up to 12 or so in 6 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms.  One past guest referred to Mas Anes as a "hidden gem" and I agree.  This is a charming 400m2 farmhouse on a large private property, originally dating from the mid-17thC, very nicely restored, on the outskirts of Riudellots, about 12 kms inland from the mid-Costa Brava resorts around Sant Feliu de Guixols. Along with venerable houses like Mas Grau, this is another unique place, nicely furnished for and by the owners (not done for rentals), a huge and varied garden (fruit trees, flowers, fields, a pond...) and new fenced-in swimming pool (9.5 x 5m) - all for an excellent price. The photos (I took myself) are not good so be sure to read the Comments from Past Guests. No central heating so rents only mid-May to early October. Minimum 2 weeks in July and August.

Ref. CB 1600 - Casadevall villa

up to 12 or so in 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, Casadevall is a notable exception from the usual sort of rustic farmhouse property we normally offer. This is the modern 350m2 house of an architect, situated in a 10 hectaire private fenced-in property of mostly Mediterranean pine and cork oak, just outside of the town of Sils, 65 kms north of Barcelona by car, 1 km walk to the commuter train. Built some 15 years ago, this designer house has 6 bedrooms (2 en suite) and a total of four bathrooms plus one wc, along with a sauna and an exercise room with weights and nautilus machines.  But by far the nicest part of this villa is the large triangular swimming pool and the outdoor covered BBQ dining area and porch. It is probably one of the nicest outdoors of any of the houses I offer, with lots of nice seating and lighting around the pool.  A gorgeous setting under the soothing shade of fragrant pines!  Free internet.

up to 10 or so in 5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a beautifully restored house in an unbeatable location, just off the greens of the new PGA golf course at Caldes de Malavella.  This is 12 kms south of Girona town, 15 kms inland from the middle Costa Brava beaches like San Feliu de Guixols.  Aside from the attractive interior, including 2 living rooms and a separate dining room and kitchen, there is a lovely Japanese-inspired landscaped garden and a private fenced-in swimming pool.  I have stayed here myself twice and I am very enthusiastic about this new house, which is 4 kms to the commuter train in Caldes to Barcelona (every half hour, 1 hour ride) and just 1 hour's drive from Barcelona on the fast AP-7 highway.  Good feedback and good price-quality relationship.  Recommended.

Perched just above Agullana, a prosperous village with a large Romanesque church and some good art-nouveau buildings, Casa Palau is surrounded by the Catalan/French owner's vineyards and olive groves, offering wide panoramic views of hilly Albera range, where the mighty Pyrennes finally tumble into the Mediterranean at Cap de Creus. The house is beautiful and comfortable in equal measure, and now with the new fenced-in 9x4m swimming pool, I think you would be hard pressed to find a nicer house or location on either side of the nearby French-Spanish border.  I don´t usually gush but I like well-preserved old houses of character.

Indoors I can highlight the unusually large (60m2) dinning room, and the spaciousness of the bedrooms. Outdoors, there is the new 8x5 meter swimming pool and the covered BBQ area with outdoor fridge, food prep area, seating for over 20, and games for the kids such as ping-pong and babyfoot, all set on a high terrace with unspoiled views of the valley below. up to 17 guests, 8 rooms, 5 baths, this is a perfect example of how you can get so much more house for your money if you are willing to rent further inland. Another large and beautifully restored farmhouse, originally dating from the 15th century, El Pou has a feature many of you will like:  this house was originally divided into two separate independent halves, so there are now two fully equipped kitchens, two elegant living/dinning rooms, two BBQ areas, etc...   Situated in a huge property with great panoramic views (I counted 4 mountain ranges), a nice fenced-in 8x5m swimming pool, indoor play rooms with ping-pong, and lots more. Some houses have an exceptionally nice interior, and some houses have an exceptionally nice exterior, but a chosen few, like el Pou, have it all.

up to 18 guests, 7 rooms, 8 baths, although named "the cabin", this very attractive restored 18thC farmhouse is enormous and quite luxurious, all rooms with private bathroom, several large living rooms, a well-equipped kitchen, the poolside covered BBQ area, and now with a huge banquet room of over 120m2. The new fenced-in 9x4.5 meter swimming pool is icing on the cake. Located just outside (a few hundred meters) of Casserres town, this is one of the few villas in the area where you can walk to shops/restaurants/cafés. While still in a country setting, nothing like brisk walk early in the morning to get warm bread and croissants for breakfast!  Recommended!

As you will see in the photos, this is a beautifully decorated house, and recently renovated to a high standard of comfort, with some nice extras like the separate building housing a 60m2 play area for kids. The owners have put in a new fenced-in swimming pool measuring 4.5 x 9 meters and there is lots of lawnspace. Until recently, this house was offered in exclusivity (and for double the price) in the catalogue of a well-known, up-market English rental agency. Spacious (over 400m2 on three floors), well furnished, on a large private property, this is undoubtedly, meter by meter, one of the nicest houses I've seen. Now with a new (2007) large 10x6 meter fenced in swimming pool and covered outdoor BBQ dining area, and only 350 meters walk from the owner´s son´s one-star Michelin rated restaurant, this house offers an excellent price-quality relationship, especially considering the size of the pool!

up to 17 guests, 7 rooms, 4 baths, another of those old farmhouses with lots of character that I like so much, Casamira is a very good deal in terms of price-quality. The situation is good: just 1.5kms from Gironella market town, the house is comfortable with decent-sized rooms far apart, the views excellent, the front lawn with the 8 x 4.5 meter unfenced swimming pool is just right (I hate fenced pools!) and there is a covered BBQ outdoor sitting area around to the back, and a ping-pong room one terrace down.  The house has recently been renovated and the description and photos in my website are no longer a true representation of this house. I will remedy this asap (but have to go see it first).  One week bookings welcome in high-season.

It is also a house that probably has the nicest lawn area and pool of any in this area listing, as you can see from the photos. At 12 x 6 meters, the unfenced swimming pool is larger than usual, in part because it is shared with the very pleasant owners who live in the huge mansion next door. There is a nice vegetable patch which you are welcome to take fresh produce from, and a very handsome new outdoor BBQ dinning area. Oh, and I should mention that this house is good for young and old alike in that the entire living quarters ia on one level (no stairs) and you can see the pool from the house.

sleeps up to 12 in 6 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms. A large independent restored farmhouse situated near the owners huge baronial mansion, overlooking the amazing new pool they put in in 2004. Its six bedrooms and three baths are distributed over two floors and a total of about 160m2. In front of the house is a wide lawn with a barbecue and two outdoor seating areas next to the picturesque remnants of a ruined barn. The lovely unspoilt countryside, and yes, there is a stream running through the property...,  the good selection of local restaurants, and the numerous stone villages and Romanesque churches make the Bianya Valley one of Catalonia's premiere mountain retreats. And if that weren´t enough, the unique and award-winning designer swimming pool the owners recently put in (6x15 meters) will make Capsec that much more attractive. Book early as it fills up for summer quickly.

Ref. CBM 200 - El Molí de la Vila

sleeps up to 7 in 3 Bedrooms and 3 Bathrooms, each with private bath. This is a house I escape to often!  Along with El Capsec, El Molí is one of two rental properties on a magnificent estate in the pre-Pyrenean Valley of la Bianya. Set far apart from the other houses, El Molí is a beautifully restored ancient millhouse straddling a stream and backed by a deep reservoir of fresh spring water where you can swim (but you also have the use of the owners award-winning designer swimming pool).  The living quarters are somewhat small (except for the spacious master bedroom upstairs) but cozy and very atmospheric, with interior doors and floors and stairways are fashioned almost entirely of stained cherrywood and anchored into the stone walls on heavy wooden beams. I love this house but some guests have complained that it is just a bit too rustic. It is a house for romantic nature-lovers, so diehard city-slickers should refrain. sleeps up to 8 in 4 rooms, with 2 full baths, La Quintana is where my wife and kids and I have been renting for the past two summers.  An attractive four-bedroom independent stone masia set in one of my favorite spots in the low-Pre-Pyrenees, on the unspoiled backroad between Banyoles and Santa Pau, 5 winding kms from the lake. Pristine medieval villages, gorgeous farmhouses, pine and beech forests, and lush farmlands fill in the contours between the cones of this Volcanic Natural Park. A veritable hiker´s paradise. The house itself is comfortable without being big or fancy or pricey. But the location and views are priceless.

sleeps up to 12. A large and somewhat ramshackle independent masia for those who really love the mountains. This rustic farmhouse is nestled astride a large cow pasture at the bottom of a deep valley, at 800 meters above sea-level. The nearest house is three kilometers away, the nearest village, at four kilometers. The sound of cowbells and rushing water from the trout-filled stream nearby fill the cool mountain air. A delightful place to commune with nature. The owners have just put in a small swimming pool (measuring 3 by 6 meters and not very deep) mostly for the kiddies, and in the summer months, you have free access to a pool 3.5 kms away in the town of Sant Pau de Seguries, and there is a stream of clean and cold mountain spring water just on the other side of the pasture, with wading pools year-round.

Mas Ros: a restored 15C masia converted into a B&B with 7 rooms (all with full private bath) and offering sumptuous meals. Situated in a beautiful and quiet hamlet just two quick kilometers from the main highway to France and Barcelona, this is a privileged area much sought-after by well-heeled Catalans in search of a country villa. Swimming pool and large garden. The owner´s have a farm several kms away with farm animals. Very nice indeed... and the owner is president of local rural tourism association and can be trusted to run a tight ship!

Can Sort is a gorgeous 10-room B&B on a large property which also offers horseback riding. However, the stables and the living quarters are quite far apart, and so even if you aren´t at all interested in horses, you will probably give this B&B top marks for its large, informal, but comfortable rooms, excellent meals, elegant common areas (including a nice dining room and a huge 120 living room) and a good-sized - 6x12m - swimming pool.  The idyllic rural setting and the relaxed hospitality of the owners and their young staff make this another of those best-kept-secret sort of places, but don´t tell them I told you so. 80 Euros night for double room with private bath and breakfast.

sleeps 17 or so in 9 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms,  (2 of these outdoors poolside and BBQ side).  Set on a large private 35 hectaire fenced property under pines, 30 kms north of Barcelona, 12 highway kms inland from the beaches around Mataro, this property consists of two houses, always rented together to the same group, never separately.  The larger 5 bedroom house (225m2) is brand new and quite elegant, fully air conditioned and with quality furnishings, while the other 4 bedroom house (100m2) is rather simple, and I have been offering this older house for years now, so the owners have a proven track record.  Each house has its own outdoor sitting area and there is a large covered BBQ dining area with seating for all guests, ping pong, etc.  The 10x6 meter swimming pool is larger than most.  Highly recommended, for small and larger groups alike, who wish to be in a nice quiet location with great views, but not far from Barcelona and the sea.
