Morning Charlie

We've just returned from our one week holiday at Can Cunill. The villa is beautiful! We had a great time and found the house, the surrounding area and the friendly local people amazing.

Our group of 16 people really enjoyed the house and never felt cramped. The house is really tidy, well equipped, and as you described with good sized rooms and so comfortable that we didn't want to leave!

The weather was really good and everyone enjoyed spending some time by the pool. The kids especially enjoyed playing table tennis.

Neus was lovely and we somehow all understood each other. She dropped by to pick up the waste/recycling and we really appreciated her help.

The area and the restaurants were exactly as you described. We walked up to Masferrer restaurant for an evening meal and the food and hospitality blew us away - it's worth the walk!

Charlie, as an agent you've been brilliant. You've answered all our questions and helped with all our requests. We highly recommend your services as it's been a joy to work with you.

I'll be in touch when we return to Spain.

PS we had to leave a lot of food and wine behind when we left but we trust that was ok.

Kind regards

Rianda

Hi Charlie!

I just came home yesterday and I did have first day at work. It´s really hard to focus on work after week like that!

We had a blast! Everyone were overwhelmed how well Can Cunill suited for us. There was enough room for 28 people, half of them children. We did not have any feeling that place was crowded – garden and pools were wonderful and rooms were cosy. There was still plenty of room for everyone and even for children to take day nap. You and Neus did a great job with the pool and my birthday dinner was success. Thank Neus for me! One of best vacations ever, not only for me but everyone! Now we are sharing photos and people are asking if I could arrange my 50th birthday sooner…

Thank you!

Henri, 40 yo

Bonjour Charlie,

Bien cordialement,

Didier

We had a great week at Can Cunill. It's a villa with huge charm, so don't expect state of the art modern luxury, but do expect a comfortable and enjoyable stay in a very peaceful setting with amazing views of the mountains in every direction. We were 21 (11/10) - and we rented the extra building, which is really really nice and spacious, and has two bathrooms - which meant that we were very comfortably housed. Both pools are great - and the gardens are big and beautiful. There are several supermarkets about 15 minute's drive away and plenty of local options (10 minutes drive) for eating out or buying in food. If you are a large group, it's hard to imagine you'd find a nicer experience - so Can Cunill comes highly recommended. And our experience with the owner, and Neus, the local caretaker, were very positive.

Hello CHARLIE, hola Mrs. NEUS

We want to say "muchas gracias" for a fantastic time we had at your "Hacienda".

It was great entertainment for us and Can Cunill is unbelievable pretty.

We have been there with 20 people and all enjoyed the time there. The kids had a lot of fun everyday.

All was working well but please take a look for a new Stereo Machine, he,he...

Felicitation to Mrs. Neus for taking out every day the trash and watering the grounds.

Belive us, we will come back!

Best regards

Hi Charlie, thanks your mail

Yes, the entire group really enjoyed our stay at Can Cunhill, the house is really excellent, it has the best facilities that we have experienced in the 10 or more years that we have been making our annual golf and chill out trip.

Housing 16 adults comfortably is not always that easy as individual needs and expectations can vary but the golfers and non-golfers alike were full of praise for the house.

The gardens, pools, views, bedroom accommodation, external & internal furnishing are truly excellent and this was complimented by wonderful weather all the week.

Neus was very attentive and called regularly to check if all was in order and she was particularly helpful in planning our trip to the Nou Camp to watch the Barcelona game, which was a memorable experience for those who attended.

The group have already discussed the prospect of returning to Can Cunhill next year and I will pass onto them your comments regarding possible discount

I am happy if you extract any relevant comments for the review section but would prefer to remain anonymous, ok to reference group from Sheffield UK .

Best Wishes
John

The house was fine and ideal for our purposes. The place was comfortable, huge for 16 of us and with all the amenities we could require and the air conditioning was a bonus. We enjoyed our stay and would do it again, if we had the numbers. The two pools was almost excessive and the kids never used "their own".

Special mention must go to the restaurants nearby. L'Era de Sils was terrific value and more food than we could possibly eat, La Brasa was also very good and extremely friendly. My personal favourite was at Can Cordons where there were only 6 of us for lunch, but all of them were very welcoming and all good value.

Thanks to you and to Neus for your help

I will ask the other members of the family if they want to make any comments.

Charlie

Just wanted to drop you a note to thank again for the availability and arrangements preceeding our arrival to Can Cunill.

The instructions and the arranged meeting with Neus were very helpful in getting us to Can Cunill around midnight on Saturday – there's no way that we could have ever found the house in the dark without Neus' help.

The house was really absolutely great. I'm not sure if it is in fact 1700m2 J but it certainly was a good layout for us (four families with six children aged 7mo to 4.5yrs) with enough doors to isolate the sounds and enough rooms to provide privacy and possibility to put the kids to bed at varying times.

The grounds with the pools, the pond with frogs and fish, the garage with the ping-pong table, the kitchen with double everything and the washing machines downstairs - all really great. The Sunday market at Riudarenes proved fun and the local shop there had really great selection, and the Consum basic in Sils was more than sufficient to provide for the daily needs. We also drove down to Blanes beaches several times and had great fun, at the parks and at the beach.

All in all we were very pleased with the whole property as well as with your availability and service throughout the months leading to our visit. Very much worth the price and hard to beat in the future – might even revisit someday, unless this house gets the attention it deserves and is booked from now on. We will certainly recommend you and barcelonavillas.com to our friends – even if it means its that much harder for us to get a house..
Best,
Mikko and the rest.

Hi Charlie

Just wanted to let you know that we had a fantastic time at Can Cunill. It worked perfectly for a changing set of people coming in from the south of Spain, UK, Amsterdam and France. Our men made the most of the mountains with top range mountain bikes rented from a small English/Dutch company in Girona. And we only visited Sils clinic once! (with 2 people)

Neus was charming, efficient and unobtrusive. Our trip to Carme Ruscadella's restuarant worked flawlessly and we can highly recommend this for foodies wanting a blow-out celebration.

We didn't really eat out much, just twice up the hill at L'Esparra, as we were blessed with group of compulsive cooks. The kitchen stood up to all of our tests.

The building itself and the whole layout and space, including the wonderful pool setting, are magnificent. And the location, views, and proximity to Girona/Barcelona and the beaches, whilst also being out of the way, make Can Cunill very special.

Thanks for all your help organising and setting up our wonderful holiday. I hope you've had a successful season.

Best wishes
Diane

Hi Charlie

I stayed at Can Cunhill a few years ago with quite a group of friends all in our 20-30's, celebrating a joint 30th b'day. The house and grounds were amazing, there was space for everyone to do what they wanted - card games in the shade, pool games in the round pool whilst those looking for quiet time were sunbathing round the SECOND (!!!) pool. The additional kitchen and BBQ by the pool was great for evening alfresco dining and karaoke for our large party. Great location, between both Girona and Barcelona airports meant our friends could fly in from their most convenient airport too, its not far to the sea, or Barcelona for some sightseeing, although some of us didn't leave the poolside all week!! I would recommend this to everyone, from a party of 5 to a family group of 25, it's perfect for everyone.

Look forward to hearing from you

Kind Regards

Dear Charlie,

Absolutely the most fabulous house ever! I did not expect it to exceed the superlatives you gave it but it did in practically every way! The setting in the middle of the forrest giving complete privacy was wonderful for us as we could give free rein to the kids without worrying about the neighbours. The kitchen was terrific as 3-4 people could work there together and 2 dishwashers & sinks made clearing up easy. We didn't feel the need to go out and eat and ate all meals on the terrace. We did have one celebratory meal near the pool which Lee Pennington cooked and the atmosphere was wonderful. Neus was excellent and responded to small problems immediately - she also made her daily "rubbish collecting" visits as unobtrusive as possible. 2 washers & 2 dryers meant we all went home with clean clothes!

I would like to say that from the very beginning of contact with you I have been very impressed with the way you work and have responded to our queries(our doubts about saline pools seem ridiculous in retrospect). Your advertising description of the house was accurate, even understated. We contrast this to our dealings with agents of rented flats in Barcelona who wildly exaggerated the charms of the flats we rented in the week previous to Can Cunill- not to mention lack of promised facilities!

Thanks again,
Sylvia

This was our third visit to Can Cunill.

We had lee pennington catering on the last eve of our stay, and were very satisfied with his cooking and services - great job!

Charlie - that was all.
Thanks again for your good services - we're already in the planning phase for next year !!

Charlie-

Just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful stay at Can Cunill at the end of August. The villa was even better than we expected. The house was impressive and very well maintained. Most striking was the fantastic view of the mountains and woods from the back patio where we had drinks and dinner most evenings. Lee Penninton was able to prepare dinner for us a couple of nights and did a great job. Neus was very knowledgable and helpful and did offer to babysit, though we decided to spend our evenings at the house with the babies and have substantial late lunches during our day trips. We actually never met Horst.

Charlie adds here: yes, Horst is no longer living at Can Cunill. There is a new gardener and there is now no one living in Horst´s apartment by the round pool. The owners are trying to decide what to do with that empty apartment...

Thank you for all of your help and advice.

Sincerely,
Norman and Elaine Florida

So sorry for not replying to you sooner! Thank you so much for everything – you couldn't have been more helpful. Every one of our party (and we were a big group of all ages) had a brilliant time. The villa was fantastic and in beautiful surroundings with a wonderful pool, all the rooms were lovely and well laid out and the villa as a whole was extremely well equipped. From start to finish we were looked after excellently by yourself and also by Neus (we didn't meet Horst) and anything we asked about you were able to help us with. I would thoroughly recommend Can Cunill to anyone and we would love to come back again at some point!

If you need me to add to this at all don't hesitate to ask and its absolutely fine to include whatever you like on the comments page.

Thanks once again, and I do hope that we can come back some day – we had a lovely time.

Thanks for your kind service - and give our regards to Neus - we really enjoyed her visits, although we couldn't communicate much with her due to our limited spanish skills. But sign language and a smile goes a long way.

We're very much considering coming back next year - but will let you know when we get a little closer -

dear Charlie,

just arrived home again, after a wonderfull time in Can Cunill. We really enjoyed the house, the surroundings of the Selva, Neus' daily visit and the Magma Spa. All 17 of us had an unforgettable holiday and we all arrived home safely, bij plane or car.

As you may well understand we are already thinking and making plans about next year. Can Cunill (or even Casanova de3 ferrando where we stayed last year) being such a convenient place we would be glad to come back next year around the same period. Unfortunately we are not yet exactly sure about the schoolholidays of all the different families, so we cant make a reservation right now. But in any case the week of 1-5 up to 9-5 and probably the week thereafter. So we ask you how to handle this: an option for instance and you giving us a sign when other guests are interested or....?

Please let us know.

It was a pleasure speaking to you last night. Once again we are really enjoying our stay at this lovely house.

Of course we discussed the suggestion to spend another week here in this new year and for the moment the week of 15/5-22/5 looks very good to me as most of the people of our group already have 2 fixed holidays in this week and flying into Girona goes at a decent price although the saturdays are already a bit more expensive.

If it is possible I would like to take the opportunity of having an option for a few weeks just to dicuss and see if we can realy organize; is that okay for you?

Thanks very much

Hola, bon dia, Charlie. Just a quick note to say how wonderful our (and our friends) stay at Can Cunill was. Fabulous! Neus was terrific at supporting all of us - from helping some of our "lost" folks to find Can Cunill to coming up at nearly midnight to show us where to flip the switch after the power went off. She's a gem. And, Lee Pennington did a superb job as chef for a number of meals.

(Charlie adds here: email me for Lee Pennington´s web address.)

Lastly, your "notes" and "comments" on sights and restaurants were a hit among all of our friends. Will sent you a more lengthy note when I get a breather - have started back to work with a huge backlog. Again, thank you for all your help in arranging the villa. Hope we can get back again in a couple of years. Take care.

Having just arrived back home after a wonderful week in Spain and Can Cunill. This is a marvellous place, better than we could ever dream of. We all want to come back in near future.

We had all our meals in the house, which was perfect because of the good space and well equipped kitchen. And you can imagine poor Neus who had to pick up our huge garbage every day. I hope she didn't faint when she saw all our bottles, cans and leftovers.

Thank you for making this real and send our best regards to Neus and the owners of this magnificent house/palace.

Dear Charlie,

We had a wonderful time in our house; Can Cunill."I had told the children that it was going to be a small house but very pleasant. You should have seen there faces and hear there reactions. It was one big feast.

The house was absolutely beautiful. Clean , tasteful and with all the luxury one can only which for.

We have had a great time. The weather could have been better but because we had so much space and with the table-tennis, television etc. Also we brought enough books and went to Girona and Barcelona.

I gave Neus 68.- euro. Because she was so nice to invite us all for a drink by arrival. And I honestly thought we were able to have a meal in her restaurant. That was a mistake or rather misunderstanding. Anyhow she is a nice person and deserved a little extra.

I have passed your address on to my nephew, who is working in Madrid with tourism, special events. He is sometimes asked for housing. Who knows!!.

So thank you again for everything and I hope we'll be able to come back sometimes.

Dear Charlie, We had a wonderful time at Can Cunill. What an incredible setting! Thank you for making the arrangements for dinner at the restaurant our first night. That was a great experience. The owners set up a very long table upstairs and fed us well.

The swimming pools at Can Cunill were one of the best features for us all since the weather was quite hot. We did manage a couple days at the beach which we wished was closer. We had Neus cook for us one night and she was alot of fun. We also had Horst come over a couple nights and watch World Cup games with us (of course we rooted for Switzerland then)

The house itself was quite magical and we all enjoyed our bedrooms and the views from them.

Girona was a charming town and I personally enjoyed the Jewish quarter and the historical museum there. The only drawback for us was the distance travelling to points of interest....the teenagers in our group would have preferred a larger town close by but for me, I really enjoyed relaxing out in the country on the beautiful grounds of Can Cunill. We also appreciated all of your info from emails and materials at the home. It did help in getting organized.

Thank you very much.

Hi Charlie, I just wanted to say thanks for a great holiday at Can Cunill. We had four families and 17 people in the house and it can be difficult to keep that many people happy, but everybody had a fantastic time. The house was such a peaceful place that we were often reluctant to do much more than walk up to the bar at L'Esparra for a couple of drinks.

The Can Cordon restaurant in Riudarenes and the yellow masia restaurant (I can't remember the name) at Sils were excellent. I would add that what really marked out all 3 was how friendly the staff were.

Charlie adds: ... the yellow masia restaurant is called L'Era de Sils - "the threshing floor of Sils" - and it´s a place I go to often, along with equally amazing Les Mallorquines restaurant just up the road at the traffic circle on your right.

The cleaners did an excellent job and the various people that came in over the two weeks gardening or working on the pools were all quietly efficient, not disturbing us in any way.

By the way, I would definitely recommend making the effort to walk up to the church at Argimon, as the views from there were superb, and the church is so well kept. So thanks once again for a great holiday,

Cheers,
Jon Gray

Subject: Re: Charlie,

Bon dia Charlie,

We definitely enjoyed our meals in Catalonia.

Here are our comments: The Saturday we arrived at Can Cunill, we went to El Moli de la Selva, apprx 5KM past Vidreres...an old mill with a fine menu at reasonable prices, good fish, meat dishes, fidoes, fairly priced selection of wines. We all enjoyed and definitely recommend El Moli.

Looking for something creative, our group went for dinner at L'Alancia in Angles, basically the next town on the C-63 beyond Santa Coloma. The Menu de Degustation was enjoyed by all. It featured fine Catalan regional dishes prepared with a modern edge. Highly recommended. About 40-45 euros all in, including wine, water, bread, taxes etc.

To celebrate an important birthday and anniversary, we reserved for lunch at Les Cols, in Olot, approx 50 minutes from Can Cunill. Set in an old masia, it was recently redone featuring an ultramodern interior and is the recipient of several architectural awards. Great inventive food, using local ingredients, with top service and fairly priced considering the quality. (Degustation menu 50 euros). The level of inventiveness was just right...no crazy chemical reinventions. An outstanding feature: the garden where you will enjoy a copa of cava before the meal and where you will have coffee and refreshments after the meal. The consensus of our group: Les Cols was one of the most memorable dining experiences. Not to be missed!

Neus prepared dinner one evening and it was a delightful treat, featuring a well prepared seafood paella. I believe she has learned how to charge!

We also cooked two dinners, using the barbeque pit. Enjoyable, since the local ingredients are fresh and most reasonably priced.

Food shopping: Riudarenes has it all! and all on the same street: Great bakery, a fish/seafood shop (delicious shrimp from there for dinner), a small supermercado but surprisingly well stocked with wonderful local cheeses, meats, Ibericos etc. We shopped these locations for some of our lunches which we consumed at Can Cunill. In Sils, the supemarcado is well stocked and has a fine meat and cheese counter.

For wines, the wine shop up the hill from Neus' bar, has a fine selection.

Barcelona: We enjoyed the fine Tapas at Ceverceria Catalana and my wife and I enjoyed a delicious dinner splurge at Gaig.

After Can Cunill, my wife and I crossed Spain by car to San Sebastian, stopping at Zaragosa (as you suggested), Ezcaray in La Rioja and Pamplona. Needless to say, there was no lack of fine food!

That's it for now. If you would like me to email you a note of recommendation for your website, let me know. Can Cunill was truly a wonderful experience for our entire group.

All the best,

Hi Charlie,

Just a quick note to thank you for bringing Can Cunill to my attention via your website and all your help in setting up what was a truly memorable long weekend to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday.

Can Cunill was fantasic and completely surpassed any hopes or expectations that I had. The look on the faces of both my husband and his surprise guests as they drew up was priceless. Neus was lovely and while we couldn't converse in Spanish or English we got by very well in pigeon French which might be worth mentioning to future guests.

Your description on your website possibly with the exception of the DVD player ..which may be there but we never managed to find and the now non - existant wine cellar was pin point accurate and I would say to anyone even considering renting Can Cunill " Do it! - you will not be disappointed!"

We not only loved the house but really enjoyed the surrounding area. Girona is lovely..and so accessible, Tossa de Mar was one of the nicest beach resorts I've seen for a long while ..though probably nicer in October than the height of the summer and it's an easy train ride to Barcelona.

We can't wait for an excuse to come back!

Thank you so much.
Anne.

Charlie adds: ... I have taken note to call Neus and ask her about the DVD player. DVD players now cost as little as 65 Euros so there is no excuse for that item missing in the house, even if the family who stayed there before you broke it. As for the wine celler, I will have to eliminate all mention of that in the website. The wine celler was one of Neus´s bright ideas for adding value to the house and making a bit of income at the same time. She would stock the wine celler and guests would be free to help themselves and then settle up with Neus at the end of their stay. It was the honour system, you know, with a list of the wines where one would check off the number of bottles taken. Well, I needn´t go into details on how much Neus lost with this scheme. She should have known that people drink to forget!

Fortunately, there are decent wine shops all over, including the one right up the street from Neus´s bar, where you can buy good vintage bottled wine, or cheaper local plonk right from the barrel! ...

Hello Charlie,

I have been trying to send you an email since I came back from Spain to let you know how it went but work was crazy! So here it is:

First of all THANK YOU sooooo much for the incredible time we had at Can Cunill thanks to you. You made a dream of 21 persons + kids become true. The house is exactly as we were expecting it and on top of this we realized how well designed it is so people could enjoy late nite out or chatting and dancing in the living room while early birds were sleeping in very quiet bedrooms. The garden is so welcoming so are the 2 swimming pools. The Barbecue area is perfect for long "aperitif" and lunches. What we were not expecting is the view from the house...stunning! Green hills and mountains.. A beautiful castle or monastery is the only construction you see... no neighbors. Well just the fact of speaking about it and I am there again... we all hope it will happen again.

I want to thank you also for making it so easy to rent the house and for your great indications. Neus was adorable and the owner is a nice person too. We will be in touch!

Hello Charlie,

We had again a great holiday in Can Cunill. The weather was excellent that time , important for a succesfull holiday. The house was in good shape. As last year, Neus and her team did everything we asked to make our stay confortable.

Neus organised for us 2 fiesta's with a gitarist and excellent spanish food. Those evenings we made to much noise for our neighbours. We apologise for it.

We were all very enthousiastic about our stay in a very exceptional and wonderfull environment and house.

Fabulous!

Next year we will not be there because we have two students starting university studies.

But I hope to come back one year. I don't know when.
Please, bring my greating to Neus and thanks to her for her kindness and work.
Kind regards,
Kaat

Hi Charlie

How amazing - I was just thinking this morning that I hadn't been in touch with you and felt really bad about it. We all had a fantastic holiday and Neus was brilliant. The anniversary meal was superb, have attached a couple of photos to this email.

Thank you for all your help with everything.
Kind regards

Dear Charlie,

We all had a lovely week at Can Cunill in June. The house was as great as we remembered it to be, and the weather was scorching. We had a fluent Spanish speaker with us this time, so we were able to chat much more easily with Neus.

Just a minor issue on this visit:-

We were unable to track down the wine cellar in the property – not a big deal really, but it would have been very handy to have as a backup. The guy who lives in the house next door (don't know if he's the caretaker?) told one of the party that there is no wine cellar – perhaps this could be changed on the website if this is the case.

Apart from that, everything went smoothly, and everyone really appreciated the tranquility and beauty of Can Cunill.
Best regards
Kate

Charlie adds on May 14: The Swedish family currently staying at Can Cunill (May 7 to 14, 2005) just paid the highest of compliments to this house. Before leaving they handed over the deposit to secure the same week in 2006! Same thing with Kaat Peters from Amsterdam, but she is coming back for three weeks again in July next year!

Dear Charlie,

I rented Can Cunill through you for my wedding last October.

It was incredible! Friends from all around the world had a dreamy surreal week in an exceptionally beautiful setting and gorgeous home. Everyone wanted to meet there for our first-year anniversary, and we're trying to think of other occaisions that we should rent the house for. Thus far, our plans are on hold...not for lack of desire, however. I'm thinking maybe we could go again for our fifth anniversary...

We really had a breathtaking time there and Neus and the other women working with her made sure everything ran smoothly. They really went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure that we were comfortable with all of the plans and arrangements!

Anyway, I'm sorry it has taken so long to finally write and let you know how much we enjoyed our time there. It really couldn't have been better.

On another note, my father (Richard Stranger) has rented Can Portell through you for most of August. He just sent me a copy of your driving instructions from Barcelona. I was hoping you could tell me the best way to get there by train from Barcelona (i.e. which is the closest train station? And is it possible to get a taxi there to go to the house?). Done and thank you so very much! (Charlie adds here)...

Thanks a lot.
Cheers,
Barbara Stranger

Just a note to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at Can Cunill. It is a wonderfully secluded hideaway with only the daily movement of the goats as a reminder of the real world outside.

I cannot imagine a more comfortable place to bring a family and the grounds are quite beautiful. We arranged for dinner in for five of the seven nights and ate leftovers on the other two nights. Local restaurants were sampled at lunchtime.

Trying to think of some helpful suggestion for improvement, I can come up with only one thing: the seat on the toilet in the shared upstairs bathroom needs attention. Don't you wish all "complaints" were that minor?

Thank you for your part in the arrangements for a very pleasant family holiday. It was all we hoped for--and more!

Best regards,
Ralph Ebbott

Charlie:

My apologies for not communicating with you earlier. We are having some of the participasnts in our Spanish adventure home for Tanksgiving, and will use that time to put together a composite commentary. IT WILL BE POSITIVE! We were very impressed with Can Canill, and have praised it and your services to several friends.

One thing I did do while there, was a video tour of the house and garden area. I have it on CD, and would be pleased to forward it to you for your use should you want to look at it and adapt it to your use. Let me know.

Hello Charles,

well we just got back from our 4 wekk honey moon having travelled throughout Spain and Morocco and I must admit there is nowhere as beautiful as Catalonia.

Hiring Can Cunill for our wedding helped to make it the most magical and romantic day of our lives. The house and grounds are immaculate, the views stunning and Neus and her team were truly fabulous(offering to pick up one of our drunken revellers from Can Cunill and take him to the train Station in Sils - needless to say after another glass of Cava he called Neus and cancelled) and incredibly generous,if only we'd known in advance how good cooks they were, we would have had them over every night!

What else can I say than I can't wait to go back, infact our whole wedding party is now talking about various events they could use as an excuse to hire the masia.

Thank you, Neus and Hors for all your help in making our wedding one to truly remember.

Hi Charlie,

Please see comments below from my husband, whose 40th birthday we celebrated in great style at Can Cunil. I shall be asking the other 13 guests who stayed for their comments, but the universal feeling was that the house was fantastic, the grounds tranquil, and Neus a godsend!

Kind regards

Kate

Well Charles,

Everything went extraordinarily well. Apparently vegetarianism is considered akin to homosexuality in Catalonia, but it seem that the Catalans are relaxed to "life-Style" choices, and the fussy eaters were catered with no problems.

Talking to Neus was a life experience, a meeting of an almost elemental personality, to not understand her, would be difficult, as she keeps on going until you do. She was very helpful, and it was a shame that we were unable to converse more easily, so that we could thank her for her kindness. She refused to allow us to order taxis' when we drop by her Cafe, late one evening, instead she drove us to Can Cunil. Which was good of her, and also provided yet another "life experiences" fitting 11 grown adults into a Frontera.

Can Cunil its self was a joy, like having your own private hotel. The grounds are marvellous (just how old are those Aloes?), well laid out and pretty. There was though a facinating edge to the plant life, I would not have cared to walk drunkenly into some of the succulents that abound, on a dark and warm night.

The rooms were simple and pleasant, though there was some problems with the ground floor bathroom flooding. No-one complained or had any problems with the rooms, apart from two of the single blokes, who had to share a room and who's mutual snoring meant they effectively slept in shifts.

The pool area was excellent and allowed us to swin, drink beer, play cards and even kick a ball around. The main lounges were spacious and airy, and were well used by all.

We had planned on a number of days out, but everyone was enjoying them selves so much that mostly we just hung at Can Cunil and enjoyed ourselves. Fortunately we were pretty organised and made two major shopping trips, and filled the car to the brim with wine, beer and plenty of Catalonian food stuffs. We tended to have a big barbeque every night, and with the great quality of the local meat, this was a joy.

It was for me the best, birthday party ever. It seemed to go down well with the rest of the crew as well. We had a few minor tiffs, and one or two "interesting" moments. For example one couple missed the station and ended up in Gerona. It took two hours and one very annoyed taxi driver to get them to Can Cunil. But then they didn't follow the advice given in their vunderbar information pack.

In summary I have this to say. Can Cunil is the almost perfect place for a group of freinds to gather for a holiday. It is not family biased like so many other large Villas, and is just right for adults. The proximity of Gerona (top place) and Barcelona, mean that those who want to do the bar, disco or cultural thing have an easy opportunity, via the local train. For those with the maturity and sophistication to enjoy the company of their freinds, it is an idyllic place to relax (kick back) and enjoy the sunshine. It is very well set up for self catering and has all the important facilities well laid out.

There are one or two niggles. We didn't know where to put the rubbish, and the way lights are turned on and off are a mystery. There were also a lot of missing or dead light bulbs. However that said, it isn't very much to complain about really is it.

Thanks for all your assistance.

Subject: Re: Villa Rental Can Cunill

Back from Can Cunill. We have had a marvellous time. Great villa, fabulous views and Miss Neus and her team put on 2 great meals. We have put a glowing report in the book. One point of feedback. The bathroom position with more than 2 families does present a bit of a problem. We had one family occupying 2 bedrooms and the main bathroom and four couples (3 over sixty)sharing the shower and the loo, all on the first floor. We tried to get them to use the other facilities, but maybe it is the reserved British nature, but they would not. I only pass on the comment as helpful feedback. From the British perspective, the villa is fantastic for 2 large families. Another bathroom or second shower and loo on the first floor for the third family would be nice. To put this comment into perspective as I feel bad having made it, we hope to come again to Can Cunill. We loved it. We ran out of time for things we would like to do.
Many thanks for the arrangements at your end.

Hello Charles,

The house was furnished to a very high standard and was spacious with a huge number of featues - not least the summer house. I think most of our time was spent cooking in the summerhouse and dining by the pool. Your description of the house was accurate. The house was visually stunning - I think the pictures did not really do the house justice - more could me made of the size of the house and the pool. Also the fact that the house was secluded and had little noise intrusion was a big feature. The cost of renting the house was very competitive and overall everybody in the party considered it money very well spent.

The stay in Catelonia was fantastic - Barcelona is a wonderful city and the use of the tourist guide book was helpful for our trips and where to go. The coastal trip from LLoret past Tossa and along up to St. Feliu was amazing on a motorbike.

Neus was a big help given that none of our party could actually converse in Spanish. She was always bubbly and welcomed us on our arrival with drinks which was most welcome after a long journey to Sils. Given that we were on motorbikes and we enjoy a drink, Neus, Hors and the Gardener helped us hire taxis on a few occasions. We found everyboody's hospitality superb.

The only thing I would recommend is that you advise people not to take travellers cheques for the balance of payment. I would recommend a bank transfer similar to the deposit. We had to make 4 jouneys into banks to clear the travellers cheques. Firstly, the bank in Sils was not big enough to change the amount we had, then the bank in the place up the road would not exchange the cheques but insisted on opening an account from which we could not withdraw on the same day. The next day we went up the bank was closed because we had not got sed to trading hours in Spain. The next day he would not let us take out the full amount in one go we could only take half but we said we were catching a plane the next day (which was a lie), so he let us have all of the money. Not being able to speak Spanish this was a frustrating experience.

The last point is only a recommendation and did not spoil what was a truly fantastic experience (echoed by the whole party of 16).

The house is a show piece and I would recommend rental to any of my friends.

Hope this account helps, if you want any more information, let me know.

Regards

Charlie;

All 20+ people who stayed at Cunill had a wonderful time! The property is spectacular. Your description is accurate but you could highlight that the furnishings are great and the landscaping is breathtaking--the grounds are manicured to perfection !

The villa is well equipped with all supplies, etc. Additionally, it is well located for those who would use it as a base for touring Catalonia. It couldn't have been a more perfect place.

Neus was extremely accomodating and helpful, as was her staff.

There were very few negatives. I would suggest that the description of the number and type of bathrooms be more precise. With couples sharing, it could be toublesome. With our group, as we are all good friends, it was not a problem.

I have traveled throughout Spain and Catalonia is truly a special and unique place. It would take several lifetimes to see it all! This was the only vacation I've had in which I had no desire to return home.

This is the 3rd year that we have rented villas (Provence and Tuscany were the prior locations) and while each place has been terrific, Can Cunill was the best!

Thank you for your help and detailed work. Let's stay in touch as I am sure that Nina and I will be returning to Catalonia.

Jerry

Hello Charlie

I always intended to email you to say how happy we all were with Can Cunill - the property, people and food were excellent - but what prompts this message now is that I need a favour. The day before we left my father could not find the 100,000 pts he set aside to pay Neus for meals/drinks. Although nobody really believed it could be stolen, could you please tell Neus that the money turned up today (tucked away inside a book) as we would hate to think any of the people who looked after us so well were under any suspicion.
Thanks and regards

Last year we rented in the month July a villa called Can Cunill in a town Sils. We were very happy and pleased with this villa and with the cooking and the kindness of Miss Neus.
Now we want to rent for 2 weeks in the period of 9 july till 15 august 2000 a villa which you can compair with the villa Can Cunill for +/- 20 persons with also the possibility that someone comes cooking in the evening.
Please give us some information!
We thank you in advance.
