La Barraca is an restored old farmhouse on a huge farm, about 1 km of unpaved dirt track (but in good condition) from quiet country road linking Puig Reig (on the main highway to Barcelona) and Casserres, the nearest town, about 4 kms away. While situated on a farm, there are farm animals kept anywhere near the house, (unless of course, you bring your own horses to keep in the private stables for this house next door). The other rental villa on this same farm is 700 meters away, and there are no other houses in the immediate area, so privacy is assured.


the downstairs entranceAs you can see from the photos, the owners have restored the house quite nicely, with lively colored walls and tiles, and a slightly exotic, almost Moroccan touch in the decorations. Upon arriving to the villa, you can park in one of the three covered parking spaces located below the 60m2 play area in front of the main house. This where the owners have the ping pong table, the football goal nets, and where the basketball hoops is hanging.


the kitchen/dining roomYou pass the outdoor covered BBQ area, with wooden planked seating and food prep table in tile complete with a sink. On the other side of the house there is a terra cotta terrace with some plastic tables and nice views down the valley. Indoors, on the ground floor, there is another sitting area with TV and some games. Up the rather handsome staircase and you come to the hallway around which the first floor is articulated.


the living room with fireplace and TVTo the right you have the kitchen and dining room area, a good sized room with a table seating up to 16 guests. The kitchen is well equipped and has dishwasher, gas oven and stovetop, extractor, microwave, and the typical appliances, like toaster, juicer, etc...

On the other size of the stairway/hallway from the kitchen is a snug little living room with a couple of sofas, a game table, a TV with DVD player and video, and a one of those little portable hi-fis with CD/radio/cassette.

In the hallway between the living and the kitchen-dining room are two bedrooms separated by a full bathroom. One room has a double bed and a single bed, and the other room has two single beds.

this upstairs living room has been turned into a large bedroom with double bed and with fireplace and TV On the top floor are the other four bedrooms. Until recently there were only 3 bedrooms on the top floor and a large living room, but as things turned out, no one used this 5th or 6th sitting area, so the owners decided to turn it into another bedroom, a large bedroom with double bed, a sofabed, a TV, a fireplace, and those nice bay windows. Two other rooms on this top floor have double beds and are large enough to have an extra bed put in if need be, and the largest upstairs room has four single beds backed by a very nice stone wall. There are two full baths in the hallway.

The owners of this house also have own la Cabana and Vilanova de Bernadas so they know what they are doing and run a tight ship. I never get any complaints from their guests (to the contrary - see the Comments Pages for the other houses) and everything seems to work very well at their house, with quality sheets and towels and good pool and garden maintenance. If I had to criticize anything it would undoubtedly be regarding the size of the pool. 9 x 4.5m is just barely adecuate... but I guess it keeps the kids happy and that“s what the pools are mostly for. If you want to swim laps you can go up to the municipal pool in Casserres, which is a real pool of 25 x 50 meters. The owners have also thought about the kids when building that separate 60m2 play area - a very good idea just in case, god forbid, we have a rainy day...
