Hello Charlie

We had a fantastic stay at Villa Mas Roca and really didn’t want to leave. Not only is the villa a great place to spend time but there was so much of interest to see and experience in the area all within easy driving distance. The layout of the villa, with the outdoor eating area, was perfect and I think we only ate indoors once when a lunchtime rain shower came over.

Having plenty of sun loungers (enough for all of us) around the pool was good and the amount of cutlery/plates/glasses etc etc was very good.

As you can see we really couldn’t find anything to complain about (not that we wanted too!) and Josep was very helpful on the one or two occasions we needed him. The only improvement I could suggest is to have effective insect screens on every bedroom window as my son’s room didn’t have one and he was bitten quite a lot on the first night (after which he closed the window at night).

(Charlie adds: sorry about that Kevin. I'll make sure all rooms have mosquito netting from now on!)

As I said, a fantastic holiday which will be hard to beat!

Best Regards

Kevin

Hello Charlie,

WE had à very good stay. The place is gorgeous. We had all the equipment we needed and felt very comfortable. When we had needs or questions, Joseph answered or came quite quickly. As the weather was good, we could enjoy at 100% the garden and pool, very pleasant at all hours of day and night.

There are few aspects that could be improved: change the hours of automatic watering in order to avoid water shortage in the showers around 9pm. if we had to come in winter we would appreciate lighter colours in the inside decoration (for instance in the dining area)
We were very happy and would recommend your website to friends willing to discover Girona's area.
Thank you,
Kind regards,
Catherine

“A fantastic home for 10 days in the most beautiful area of Spain”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2015 NEW

In June this year myself and 13 friends traveled to Estanyol and we weren't too sure what we were going to think of this little town just outside Girona.

On arrival at Mas Roca we were greeted by Josep, the home owner, and his family who took amazing care of us. It was a Sunday evening when we arrived and as we were unable to travel to the supermarket that day Josep offered us produce from his restaurant to take back to the house and cook! He let us stock up on bread, pasta, wine, beer, dairy produce as well as fresh fruit and vegetables at cost price and it was just the kindest offer from him after a long day traveling! Josep really took care of us for the ten days that we were there and even took us to the supermarket a couple of times as unfortunately we had not hired a car.

This small town is just gorgeous and the perfect place for bike rides (Josep let us rent bikes for a very very reasonable price) and long walks and a quiet get away.

The house itself was fantastic! It was extremely quiet and cool in the evenings and the grand living room and dining area was the perfect place to sit in the evenings that were slightly cooler. Every evening we had our evening meal outside using the tables and chairs available and we were able to sit outside at the seating area/play ping pong into the night! The pool was the perfect size and we were able to have a swim in the evenings if we wished as there was pool lighting available.

If you are looking for a group/family trip away to enjoy each others company I would highly recommend staying at this incredible villa! We had the best time here and the hospitality from Josep just completely made our holiday. It would be silly to not book this house if you are looking for a quiet house where you can enjoy the company of friends and family at great price!

Thanks, Charlie. It was the most memorable vacation i've taken in 35 years, and I've taken a great one each year! We are still fantasizing about when we can return. I was just having lunch at a friend's restaurant in Queens this week (he's from Algeria, his wife is from Tunisia--he trained with Joel Rebuchon in France) and I showed him the picture of Conxita cooking us her paella. Conxita was a sweetheart. I miss her as much as I miss the house.

Yes, we visited Mas Grau. Quite impressive, from an historical standpoint, and a huge house! But I felt Mas Roca was more "homey." By the end of our stay we felt as if it was our house. Although Mas Roca is a huge house, we spent most of our time around the dining room table. My only two regrets about Mas Roca were that 1) we never got around to having breakfast on the terrace outside our master bedroom, and 2) I'm kicking myself for waiting until the last day of our vacation to try out the pool (but the kids loved it!)

It's interesting how you get acquainted with a town. At the beginning of the trip I was cursing the church tower in Estanyol going off every 15 minutes all day and all night, and by the end of the trip I didn't need a watch as I was using the church bell. We went to Mass on Sunday during our visit, and the priest, realizing we were strangers, conducted a special separate sermon for us in English.

Feel free to past my original email to you on your website if you like to promote the house.

Thanks again.
Regards,
Robert J. Reina

Dear Charlie, We had a very pleasant stay at Mas Roca. Both the inside space and the outside were perfectly suited for our needs: relaxation and family time. The kids too were enthusiastic and are eager to go back.

Thanks for the way you helped us on making the reservation and supplying us with all the necessary information.

This summer we'll be spending our holidays on Schiermonnikoog; the prettiest of Dutch islands!

Thanks again!

Charlie,

Here's a quote you can use:

"Mas Roca is a delightful house set within walking distance of a tiny village. We walked and rode a mountain bike on its hundreds of acres of wooded forest. We loved the rooms, especially the en suite room with a balcony, where I held private consultations with my students distracted only by the view and the curious birds. Convenient to Girona, an airport, and a market in a nearby town, it's ideal for an isolated yet not remote vacation or retreat. Conxita, the owner, went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable, even lending us her wifi transmitter for our computers"

Paul Chitlik

Charlie adds: Thank you Paul! The wifi/adsl receiver is now permanently there at Mas Roca

Hello Charlie.

We're back from holidays to Spain since two weeks now, I write you these few words just to confirm that everything went well ( like last year in Villanova).

We spent very nice time to Mas Roca, the place was very pleasant and very usefull just next to Girona and the airport but without any noises disturbances !!

Thanks again for your professionalism and help

Please thanks also Conxi for her kindness.

All the best
Regards
Eric

Charlie adds: Yes, thank you Eric. This was the fourth summer you have rented a different property from me for your two week holiday in Catalonia. You'll soon know my houses better than I do! Thank you very much indeed!

Good morning Charlie,

I am part of the family who spent last week at Mas Roca, where we had a great time. What a super house and garden. Especially the fronton, which was much enjoyed by everyone.

We may well be in contact again, thinking of holidays next year. It worked so well at Mas Roca that I feel it's worth repeating.

Thanks again, let's keep in touch

Ruth and I had a grand time at Mas Roca...we always do. We also found some new (to us) and interesting places. For example the Mediterranean Tortoise Sanctuaries in the Albera region. That's a great place to take children. If our little granddaughters ever join us, we'll surely take them there. You might want to include it in the next edition of your guide.

Hope all is going well for you and your family.

Regards,
David

Hi Charlie,

Just to let you know we had a fantastic holiday in Mas Roca. The house was great and very well equipped. The standard of fitments and linen was excellent. Conxita was exceedingly helpful to us especially when we were let down by the car hire company at 3am.

We travelled around the area, getting to know Gerona city quite well. Very beautiful and not very touristy!

We found the area much cheaper than the UK, for food shopping, eating out and luxury goods. The road network is far superior to what we have in Scotland also.

Best days- at Plaja Castelle then Palamos
La Fosca
Driving the coastal route round the Cap de Creus to Port Vendre
Figueres
Pals
Best food- Tapas in the squares in Girona
Si Nos Fos cafe in Santa de Columa
Shopping- Girona
Decathlon

Negatives

- food at Estanyol Nue restaurant- although mobbed at weekend with locals. Perhaps we got an off day!
- pool is in the main fairly shallow, which to some is a bonus

For next year Charlie, do you have any large villas for at least 12 people perhaps nearer France on the coast with a pool. Please let me know

Thanks again
